Lynette Curran, an esteemed Australian actress, has graced both the stage and screen with her remarkable talent. Born in 1945 in Australia, Lynette’s acting journey began in 1964, primarily in theatre. Her stage performances have been diverse and captivating, including roles in classics like “The Country Wife,” “Rookery Nook,” and “Richard II,” as well as contemporary plays such as “Just Between Ourselves” and “Ashes” with the Melbourne Theatre Company. She also shone in “Steaming” at the Seymour Centre in Sydney, Big Mamma in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, Mrs Candour in “School for Scandal” (STC), Lady Ann in “Richard III” (MTC), and toured with Deborah Kerr in “Day After the Fair”.
Lynette’s television career took off with her role in the soap opera “Bellbird,” starting in 1967. She remained a part of this series until 1974, becoming the last of the original cast members to leave. Her television presence was further solidified with appearances in “Number 96” (1976), “Bluey,” and “Cop Shop.”
In 1985, Lynette co-starred in the film adaptation of Peter Carey’s novel “Bliss,” alongside Barry Otto. Her filmography is extensive, including notable films like “Heatwave” (1982), “The Delinquents” (1989), “The Boys” (1998), “Japanese Story” (2003), “Somersault” (2004), “These Final Hours” (2013), “A Few Less Men” (2017), and “Brothers’ Nest” (2018). Her performance in “Somersault” earned her the 2004 AACTA award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
On television, Lynette has been seen in “Love My Way,” “Underbelly: The Golden Mile,” “Cleverman,” and “Wentworth,” where she played Vera Bennett’s mother in 2015. Most recently, she appeared in Season 2 of “Aftertaste” (2022).
